Er…under a tree. On a picnic blanket.

K – I – S – S – I – N – G!

We had a play date with Lauren and her Mom on Wednesday afternoon at the Arboretum.  Jacob and Lauren have known each other since Jacob was six months and Lauren was almost four months old but it has only been pretty recently that they actually started interacting with each other.

This week they shared snacks…

and giggled….

Jacob showed Lauren where to find her feet…

and there was lots of smooching!

Can’t wait to see what happens next week!

This morning Jacob discovered the drawer above his beloved tupperware drawer.  This morning Jacob’s mom discovered that Jacob is tall enough to reach in and grab things out of this new drawer.

In case I wasn’t sure based on the photos above, I found him walking around the family room with a bag of wooden skewers in one hand and the remote control batteries in the other.  Oh boy.

Blackberry Picking

When we got home from church this morning we decided to change and drive out to Terrell, Texas – home of Ham’s Orchard to pick some blackberries.  We got about halfway there before CSS called to schedule a showing…so we turned around and drove back home to clean up a bit and put Bailey in jail.

Once we wrapped things up at home we hopped back in the car and started driving again, this time reaching our destination about 45 minutes later.

After a quick diaper change and application of SPF 500, we located the closest employee, requested a bucket and headed out back to the orchard.

Our little berry-picker was a trooper and not only walked the whole way but insisted on carrying our bucket as well.

Once we arrived at the blackberry patch, we snapped a few pictures before getting to work.

We picked…

and picked…

Jacob tasted…

and we picked some more.

Jacob never quite caught on to the idea that we were trying to take the berries home with us.  Everything he picked went straight into his mouth.

but he sure did have fun!

Once we filled our bucket, we headed inside for some ice cream and napkins.

Don’t worry, that isn’t sunburn (or even dirt!).  It is the result of letting your 13 month old loose in a blackberry patch and making the mistake of teaching him how to pick said berries…

We had a great Sunday afternoon.  Now…how am I going to use all of these blackberries?!?!

We finally took our first vacation since our honeymoon! We packed up and headed down to the Florida Keys

where we met up with Eric, Mary and Conor

and spent a long weekend soaking in the sun, eating too much food and watching the cousins interact and spend time together…

Jacob went swimming for the first time…

and learned some tips from Conor who is an old pro…

There was lots of splashing…

Walking on the beach…

and enjoying the feeling of sand between our toes.

We played in every kind of water we could find…

alcoholic beverages were consumed…

we played dress-up with Aunt Mary…

and a good time was had by all…especially our little froggie!

All in all, our first family vacation was a success and we look forward to more trips in the future!

Thanks Eric, Mary and Conor for making the weekend so fun and memorable!

Baby Keith

Keith and I have been noticing lately how much Jacob looks like me…until we saw this picture:

If that isn’t his daddy’s expression, I don’t know what is.

More Pictures!

We met our very talented wedding photographer out at the Arboretum a few weeks ago to take Jacob’s one year pictures.  As usual, she took some amazing shots that we will treasure for years to come.  Here are just a few of my favorites.

I love that smile!

If you would like to view the rest of the pictures, you can do so here.  The password is Nedell.
